When a person links directly to a file on your website from their website,
your bandwidth is used to load that file each time it is displayed on their website.
This is most commonly found with images.
In order to prevent this from happening, you must enable hotlink protection.
This demonstration shows how to enable hotlink protection using cPanel.
Enter the URLs that you wish to allow access to your files in the main text box.
You should add your website's URLs as well as the URLs from any friendly web sites you wish to allow hotlinking from.
Enter the file extensions you want to use hotlink protection for in the Extensions to allow box.
The most common extensions are already entered for you.
When a user hotlinks one of your files, they will be redirected to the URL entered in the Url to Redirect to: box.
Select the tickbox to allow people to directly access your files.
