Password protecting a directory

Password protecting a directory prevents people from accessing that area of your website unless they have a username and password to do so. This demonstration shows how to password protect a directory and shows how to manage users for that directory.

Simply follow the simple instructions below.

  1. Select the Password Protect Directories link.

  2. Select the folder you wish to password protect by clicking on the name. Click on the image to enter that folder in order to select subfolders.

  3. Complete the following instructions.
    • Select the tick box to enable protection on the directory,
    • Enter the text you would like to appear on the password pop-up when a user accesses this directory,
    • Click the Save button.

  4. You have now enabled password protection on this directory, but have not yet created any users.
    Select the Go Back link to go back to the password protection area.

  5. To add a user to the password protected area, complete the following instructions.
    • Enter the username in the text box,
    • Enter the password for the user in the text box,
    • Click the Add/modify authorized user button.

  6. You have successfully added a user to your password protected area.
    Select the Go Back link to go back to the password protection screen.

  7. Repeat the last few steps to add as many users as necessary.
  8. To change a user's password, complete the following instructions.
    • Select the user,
    • Enter the new password in the password box,
    • Click the Change Password button.

  9. To delete a user from the password protected area.
    • Select the user you wish to delete,
    • Click the Delete User button.
