Creating an email account in Thunderbird

This demo will show you how to create an email account in Thunderbird.

Simply follow the simple instructions below.

  1. Click Tools on the main menu and select Account Settings from the drop down menu.

  2. Click Add Account.

  3. Select Email account and click Next.

  4. Enter a name and email address for the account you wish to create and click Next.

  5. Set your incoming mail server (POP) to mail.example.com, replacing example.com with your domain. Click Next.

  6. Enter your account name, this your entire email address as set up in cPanel. Some servers with other hosts are configured to only require the username however our servers are not set up in this way. Click Next.

  7. For your reference only, give your email account a name and click Next.

  8. Check the details of the new account are correct, if so click Finish. If not, use the back button to change any of the details.

  9. Unless already configured to use your ISPs mail server, you now need to configure your SMTP outgoing server settings, click on Outgoing Server (SMTP).

  10. To configure your outgoing mail server (SMTP) settings, complete the following instructions.
    • Set your server name to mail.example.com, replacing example.com with your domain. If you use your ISP for outgoing mail, ask them for details.
    • Enter your account name, this your entire email address as set up in cPanel. Some servers with other hosts are configured to only require the username however our servers are not set up in this way.
    • Click OK.

    If you have configured multiple outgoing mail server settings, you should configure each email account to use the correct outgoing server. Click on the email accounts name in the left of the window (Admin in this example), then use the drop down box on the right of the window to select the individual outgoing server. Do this for each address you have setup.

    You should check you have configured your new email account correctly by sending yourself a test email message, to an email account hosted elsewhere. Don't forget to send a test reply also!
